The assault was reported near the junction of Stranmillis Gardens and Stranmillis Road at around 2.40pm on Monday, 21 September. The man also sustained other facial injuries.

Police seek two potential witnesses

In an appeal issued on Thursday, 24 September, the PSNI said it wants to speak to two women who were in the area at the time and may be able to help its investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the assault or has CCTV or other footage can use the PSNI witness appeal form or call 101, quoting reference 966 of 21/09/26.

Police have not announced an arrest. The suspected racial motivation is the PSNI’s current assessment as its enquiries continue.
