Culture Night Belfast 2026: More than 200 free events taking place across the city
More than 200 free events are set to take place across Belfast this Friday as Culture Night returns to the city.

Music, dance, visual art, poetry, exhibitions, performances and family activities will take over venues and public spaces on Friday 18 September, with the main programme running from 4pm until 10pm.
This year’s theme is “Be a City Explorer”, encouraging people to visit different parts of Belfast and discover venues, artists and activities they may not have experienced before.
Belfast City Council is supporting the event, with additional backing from the Linen Quarter and Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement Districts. The programme has been developed and delivered by MayWe and DaisyChain Inc following an open call involving the city’s creative sector.
More than 200 events across Belfast
Culture Night will make use of locations across the city, ranging from major cultural venues to independent businesses, heritage buildings and public spaces.
Council venues taking part include Belfast City Hall, 2 Royal Avenue and the Ulster Hall, while events are also planned across the Cathedral Quarter, Linen Quarter and Maritime Mile.
Among the activities highlighted by organisers are performances from the Belfast Busking Collective at the Ulster Hall, large-scale family-friendly illustrated wall art at 2 Royal Avenue and a drop-in poetry session at Native Coffee on the Maritime Mile.
Live music, dance and performance
Music will feature heavily throughout the evening.
The Oh Yeah Music Centre will host the free SoulTrane Block Party, featuring live performances from Polar Bolero, Ying Yang and EtrA, followed by DJs playing a mixture of indie, pop, post-punk and power ballads.
Ulster University’s Belfast campus will also host a programme of music, dance, exhibitions and performance.
The York Lane Yard Stage will feature Motown, funk and disco from Guardians of the Groove, followed by Fusionarium and :Panic :Over.
Elsewhere on the campus, visitors can try Argentine tango with Belfast Tango Motion, hear storytelling exploring Belfast’s communities and see exhibitions and musical performances.
Culture across the city
Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Róis-Máire Donnelly said Culture Night had become a much-loved part of the city’s cultural calendar and provided an opportunity to bring communities, visitors and people of all ages together.
She said this year’s “Be a City Explorer” theme was an invitation for people to explore somewhere new and experience the range of culture Belfast has to offer.
The event follows a major summer for culture in Belfast, which included the city’s first hosting of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
Accessibility and quiet spaces
Special Culture Night hubs will operate at 2 Royal Avenue and The MAC, with quiet spaces available at both locations.
Changing Places facilities are available at Belfast Waterfront and Ulster University, while accessibility information for participating venues is available through AccessAble.
Getting around Culture Night
Organisers say there will be no road closures associated with Culture Night and are encouraging visitors to consider public transport.
Metro and Glider services will operate, with timetable and late-night transport information available from Translink.
Belfast Bikes will also be available, with 60 docking stations located around the city.
Culture Night takes place across Belfast on Friday 18 September. The main programme runs from 4pm until 10pm, although individual venues may operate different times.
