A £750,000 improvement scheme is scheduled to begin on Battery Road between Ardboe and Moortown on 19 October 2026.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that work will begin on Monday 19 October 2026 along approximately 3.2 kilometres of the B73 Battery Road between Ardboe and Moortown.

The improvement scheme is expected to be substantially completed by Wednesday 23 December 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions.

The Department for Infrastructure has advised motorists to allow additional time for journeys while the work is carried out.

Ardboe road resurfacing to improve Battery Road

The £750,000 investment will see a substantial section of the B73 Battery Road resurfaced as part of the Department for Infrastructure’s programme of road maintenance and improvements.

The works will cover approximately 3.2 kilometres of carriageway between Ardboe and Moortown.

The scheme is intended to improve the condition of the road surface, providing a more durable carriageway for motorists and other road users.

Battery Road serves communities in the Ardboe and Moortown areas and forms part of the local road network connecting settlements across Mid Ulster.

Road closures and diversions expected

Motorists travelling through the area should prepare for disruption during the construction period.

The Department for Infrastructure has confirmed that phased road closures will be required to allow resurfacing work to proceed safely.

Diversion arrangements will affect traffic travelling between Coagh, Ardboe and Moortown.

Drivers are advised to follow temporary traffic signs and allow additional journey time while the restrictions are in place.

Access arrangements may vary depending on the section of road being worked on.

Road users should check the latest information before travelling, particularly if their usual route involves Battery Road.

Works scheduled for completion before Christmas

The resurfacing scheme is scheduled to begin on Monday 19 October, with substantial completion anticipated by Wednesday 23 December.

The Department has stressed that progress will depend on favourable weather conditions.

Road resurfacing work can be affected by heavy rainfall, low temperatures and other adverse conditions, meaning the programme may need to be adjusted.

Motorists and residents are encouraged to monitor official traffic updates throughout the construction period.

Investment in Mid Ulster’s road network

The Ardboe road resurfacing scheme represents a £750,000 investment in the maintenance of local transport infrastructure.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road conditions and maintain the safety and reliability of Northern Ireland’s road network.

Residents and businesses along the route may experience temporary disruption while the works take place.

The Department for Infrastructure has thanked road users and local residents for their patience while the improvements are completed.
