The application covers the pub and neighbouring Inn Belfast Hotel, formerly the Wellington Park Hotel, on Malone Road.
It proposes replacing the existing buildings with accommodation rising from four to six storeys, alongside retail space and communal facilities.
Botanic Inn redevelopment follows earlier announcement
GRAHAM Investment Projects and the Mooney Hotel Group previously announced their partnership to redevelop the site in May.
That announcement described approximately 561 student homes. The council’s current advertisement specifies 556 units.
GRAHAM said the location would allow residents to live close to Queen’s University Belfast, with courtyard gardens and shared indoor and outdoor spaces forming part of its plans.
The developer also argued that purpose-built accommodation could ease pressure on homes currently rented by students. That remains the developer’s assessment.
Earlier vision for the Bot
In its original announcement, GRAHAM said the Botanic Inn would continue as part of the wider redevelopment, describing a modernised concept with amenity and recreation space.
That earlier statement should be distinguished from the current application’s proposal to demolish the existing pub building.
The plans remain subject to the planning process.
