Man charged following Great Victoria Street robbery and Botanic Avenue theft

Police have charged a 36-year-old man following investigations into a robbery on Great Victoria Street and a theft on Botanic Avenue in south Belfast.
Both incidents occurred on Thursday 15 October 2026.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed on Saturday that the man has been charged with aggravated burglary and stealing, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault and theft.
He was due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 17 October.
The charges follow an investigation into a robbery at a Great Victoria Street shop, where police previously reported that two men entered the premises at approximately 6am.
According to the original police appeal, a staff member was knocked to the floor and repeatedly stamped on before being struck with a brush shaft.
The men subsequently left with a sum of cash, heading towards Glengall Street.
Police have also linked the charges to their investigation into a separate theft in the Botanic Avenue area.
As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
The allegations remain subject to court proceedings.
