Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that the Belsize Road resurfacing scheme will commence on Monday 19 October 2026, covering the section between Kirkwood’s Road and Boomers Road.

The investment will include essential carriageway resurfacing alongside improvements to kerbs and footways, with the work expected to continue into March 2027.

Belsize Road resurfacing scheme to begin on 19 October

The Department for Infrastructure has confirmed that the £757,000 project will involve resurfacing the carriageway between Kirkwood’s Road and Boomers Road.

Improvements to kerbs and footways will also form part of the scheme, providing upgrades to the road and pedestrian infrastructure along the affected section.

The Department says the investment is intended to improve the condition of the road for residents, commuters and other road users.

The project has been programmed to minimise disruption as much as possible, although temporary restrictions will be necessary throughout the works.

Lane closures and traffic restrictions

To reduce the impact on motorists, resurfacing operations will generally take place during off-peak hours.

Temporary lane closures will operate between 9.30am and 4.30pm daily while the resurfacing work is being carried out.

However, the Department has confirmed that full road closures will be required towards the end of the scheme to allow the remaining work to be completed.

Specific dates and arrangements for those closures have not yet been announced.

Drivers travelling through the area are being advised to allow additional time for their journeys and to comply with temporary traffic restrictions.

Although arrangements are being made to accommodate local access, some delays are expected during the construction period.

Infrastructure Minister welcomes £757,000 investment

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said the scheme represented an important investment in the local road network.

She said the work would deliver benefits for residents and road users while supporting connections between businesses and communities.

The Minister also thanked residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while the improvements are carried out.

The Department for Infrastructure says the scheme forms part of its ongoing programme of road maintenance and improvement works across Northern Ireland.

When will the Belsize Road works be completed?

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the Department expects the Belsize Road resurfacing scheme to be substantially completed by Wednesday 17 March 2027.

The completion date remains dependent on weather conditions and the progress of construction work.

Motorists should be aware that temporary traffic management arrangements may change as different stages of the project are undertaken.

The Department says it will keep the public informed of any changes to the planned programme.

Residents, commuters and businesses using Belsize Road are encouraged to check official traffic information before travelling, particularly when the final road closures are scheduled.

Updates on roadworks and traffic restrictions are available through TrafficWatch NI.
