Police appeal after attempted vehicle thefts reported across Derry
Police in Derry have appealed for information following reports of attempted vehicle thefts and break-ins across the city.

The PSNI confirmed on Friday 9 October that officers were investigating incidents in the Hollymount Park and Chapel Road areas, including an attempt to hot-wire a car.
Police are asking residents and motorists to check CCTV, doorbell camera footage and dashcam recordings that could assist their enquiries.
Car damaged during attempted theft in Hollymount Park
One report involved a Peugeot 107 which was broken into in the Hollymount Park area.
Police said an attempt was made to hot-wire the vehicle, causing damage to its panelling and steering.
The incident is believed to have happened sometime between Wednesday 7 October and the morning of Thursday 8 October.
Officers also received a separate report of someone attempting to gain entry to cars in the Chapel Road area.
Police appeal for CCTV and dashcam footage
Chief Inspector Cherith Craig urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
“If you see anything you think isn’t right, or looks suspicious, note as much detail as you can and report it immediately on 101, always 999 in an emergency,” she said.
Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have captured suspicious activity on CCTV, doorbell cameras or dashcams in the affected areas.
Motorists urged to take precautions
Chief Inspector Craig also reminded vehicle owners of the importance of keeping their cars secure.
Police advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly locked, even when leaving them unattended for a short period.
Drivers were also encouraged to keep vehicle keys and ignition fobs safely out of sight and reach.
Those with access to a garage were advised to use it and ensure that garages and gates are properly secured.
The PSNI warned that vehicle break-ins and thefts can cause significant distress and inconvenience, particularly when cars are damaged or unavailable while repairs are carried out.
