Two charged after Dunmurry arson and aggravated burglary

Two people have been charged following an investigation into an arson and aggravated burglary in Dunmurry, as well as a separate burglary in the Twinbrook area.

Two people have been charged following an investigation into an arson and aggravated burglary in Dunmurry and a separate burglary in Twinbrook.

The charges relate to an incident in the Cherry Walk area of Dunmurry on Saturday 3 October and a burglary at a property on Twinbrook Road two days earlier.

A 25-year-old woman and 38-year-old man are due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Monday 5 October.

Dunmurry arson and aggravated burglary investigation

Police received a report at around 1.45pm on Saturday that a fire had broken out at a flat in the Cherry Walk area of Dunmurry.

Extensive damage was caused to the property, while nearby properties also sustained some damage.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

During their investigation, detectives said one line of enquiry was that shortly before the fire, a man and woman had entered the property and threatened the occupier with a knife.

The occupant was able to push the pair out of the property and was unharmed.

Two people charged over Dunmurry incident

The PSNI has now confirmed that a 25-year-old woman has been charged with arson endangering life with intent and aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

A 38-year-old man has been charged with arson endangering life with intent, aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, possession of a Class C controlled drug, possession of a Class A controlled drug and attempted criminal damage.

Both have also been charged with burglary and handling stolen goods.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Charges also linked to Twinbrook burglary

The burglary and handling stolen goods charges relate to a separate incident at a property on Twinbrook Road.

Police received a report at approximately 10.20pm on Thursday 1 October that a property had been broken into sometime between 5.50pm and 10.20pm.

A sum of cash and a laptop were among the items reported stolen.

Police had earlier said the man and woman arrested following the Dunmurry incident were also being investigated in connection with the Twinbrook burglary.

Pair due before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court

Both defendants are due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Monday 5 October.

The PSNI investigation followed separate reports made within two days of each other in Dunmurry and Twinbrook.
