Gerry Carroll invited to police interview over Garvaghy Road protests
West Belfast MLA Gerry Carroll has confirmed that he has been invited to attend a voluntary police interview under caution in connection with protests on the Garvaghy Road.

The People Before Profit representative received the invitation on Thursday 8 October, according to a statement issued by his party.
The development comes as the Police Service of Northern Ireland moves into the next phase of its criminal investigation into the ongoing Drumcree dispute.
Carroll defends participation in protests
Mr Carroll defended his involvement in demonstrations opposing the Orange Order parade along the Garvaghy Road in Portadown.
In a statement released by People Before Profit, he said he made no apology for standing alongside local residents.
He argued that the protests represented peaceful civil disobedience and criticised the resources being devoted to the police operation.
Mr Carroll also questioned the cost of policing the dispute, contrasting it with pressures on public services.
He confirmed that he would seek legal advice following the invitation.
“Standing up for what’s right is never wrong,” he said.
PSNI investigation enters new phase
Earlier on Thursday, Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck confirmed that police were progressing their investigation into the Drumcree/Garvaghy Road dispute.
He said officers had been examining evidence collected during the policing operation and preparing evidential packages relating to identified individuals suspected of committing offences.
The investigation had reached the stage where individuals would receive correspondence about the interview process.
The PSNI said it would not comment further while the criminal investigation remained live.
No charges announced
Mr Carroll’s invitation relates to a voluntary interview under caution.
There has been no announcement that he has been arrested or charged with any offence.
The PSNI has not independently confirmed his invitation in its published statement.
The police investigation is continuing alongside legal proceedings relating to the disputed parade.
