Belfast sports club funding targets grassroots facilities

The Northern Ireland Community Infrastructure Fund is aimed at supporting improvements to facilities operated by voluntary and community organisations.

Sports organisations are among a diverse range of Belfast recipients, which also includes youth centres, churches, community organisations, disability groups and cultural organisations.

Among the sporting allocations are:

  • Brantwood Football & Recreation Club — £40,000
  • Gort na Móna Sports Association — £40,000
  • Lámh Dhearg CLG — £40,000
  • St Agnes’s GAC — £40,000
  • St Teresa’s Gaelic Athletic Club — £21,818.17

The five allocations alone amount to £181,818.17 of potential investment in Belfast grassroots sporting organisations.

Clubs asked how money will be used

The Belfast Desk has contacted the clubs for their comments.

Eligible works under the fund include repairs, small-scale refurbishment, accessibility improvements and energy-efficiency upgrades to existing community buildings.

The individual awards have not yet been finalised. The Department for Communities states that the allocations remain subject to each organisation formally accepting a Letter of Offer and complying with the relevant grant conditions.

It also cautions that publication of a provisional allocation does not constitute a funding agreement or guarantee payment, and says confirmed awards will be published once the acceptance process has been completed.
