Irish League Results: Glentoran win at Solitude as Linfield edge Crusaders in Irish League weekend
The weekend’s Irish League results saw Glentoran secure a valuable victory at Solitude while Linfield came out on top against Crusaders at Windsor Park.
There was also a first BOYLE Sports Premiership victory of the season for Bangor, while champions Larne hit five goals at Carrick Rangers.

Glentoran take the points at Solitude
Managerless Glentoran defeated Cliftonville 2-1 in North Belfast after Jordan Jenkins struck a late winner for the visitors.
Jack Malone had put the Glens ahead after 15 minutes before Dean McMaster levelled for Cliftonville with a free-kick in the 33rd minute.
The sides remained level until Jenkins struck in the 83rd minute to secure all three points for Glentoran.
Linfield edge Belfast derby at Windsor Park
Linfield recorded a 1-0 victory over Crusaders, with Kitt Nelson scoring the only goal of the game shortly after half-time.
Nelson struck just 68 seconds into the second half, converting Ethan McGee’s delivery at the back post.
The Blues were reduced to ten men in the 77th minute when substitute Kirk Millar was shown a straight red card, but David Healy’s side held on to secure the victory.
Bangor record first league victory
Bangor picked up their first Premiership victory of the season with a 3-1 win against Portadown at Clandeboye Park.
Lewis Harrison opened the scoring after 17 minutes before Lucas McRoberts and Iestyn Hughes struck in quick succession during the second half.
Sean O’Mahoney King pulled one back for Portadown with 15 minutes remaining, but Bangor saw out the game to collect all three points.
Larne hit five at Carrick
Larne continued their unbeaten start to the defence of the Premiership title with a 5-2 victory against Carrick Rangers at Taylors Avenue.
Paul O’Neill scored a hat-trick for Larne, with Dan Bent converting two penalties.
Daniel Gibson scored twice for Carrick shortly before half-time to briefly bring the hosts back into the contest, but Larne pulled clear after the break.
Carrick finished the game with ten men after Joe Crowe was dismissed in the incident which resulted in Larne’s second penalty.
Elsewhere in the Premiership, Coleraine defeated Limavady United 1-0, while Dungannon Swifts and Ballymena United drew 1-1.
Following the weekend’s games, Coleraine lead the table with 22 points from eight matches, three ahead of Linfield. Larne are third on 16 points but have played two matches fewer than the leading pair.
Championship remains tight
There was little to separate the leading sides in the BOYLE Sports Championship, with just three points covering the top five following the weekend’s fixtures.

Friday night’s games both ended 1-1.
Benny Igiehon gave Dundela an early lead against Strabane Athletic before Simon McGlynn equalised shortly after half-time.
Annagh United also took a point from their visit to Newry City. Kris Calvert put Annagh ahead before Kyron McGee rescued a point for Newry with an 83rd-minute equaliser.
On Saturday, Championship leaders Newington suffered a 1-0 defeat at Glenavon.
Ryan Waide scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute, meeting Jude Johnson’s delivery to give the Lurgan side all three points.
H&W Welders were beaten 3-1 by Ballinamallard United despite Curtis Giltrap giving the Belfast side an early lead.
Daniel Barker equalised shortly before half-time, Thomas Connolly put Ballinamallard ahead after the restart and a late own goal completed the scoring.
Institute defeated Warrenpoint Town 2-0 after the visitors were reduced to ten men in the opening minutes, while Rathfriland Rangers recorded their first points of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Queen’s University.
Loughgall and Armagh City drew 0-0, as did Moyola Park and Ards.
Newington and Annagh United now sit level on 17 points at the top of the Championship, with Queen’s University one point behind and H&W Welders on 15.
