Alliance re-selects Eóin Tennyson for Upper Bann in 2027 Assembly election
Alliance Party Deputy Leader Eóin Tennyson has been re-selected as the party’s candidate for Upper Bann in the 2027 Northern Ireland Assembly election.

The sitting MLA said the forthcoming election would give voters an opportunity to challenge political deadlock at Stormont and demand a different approach to government.
Mr Tennyson, who was elected to the Assembly in 2022, described next year’s election as an important opportunity to address what he sees as continuing dysfunction within Northern Ireland’s political institutions.
Eóin Tennyson confirmed as Alliance candidate for Upper Bann
Following his re-selection, Mr Tennyson said he wanted to continue representing the constituency where he was born and raised.
The Alliance Deputy Leader highlighted his election in 2022 as a significant moment for the party in Upper Bann and said he remained committed to working towards a shared future for the area.
He also emphasised the importance of the Assembly and council elections scheduled for May 2027, describing them as among the most significant in recent years.
Mr Tennyson said voters would face a choice between continuing existing political divisions and supporting a different direction for Northern Ireland.
Tennyson criticises political deadlock at Stormont
The Upper Bann MLA used his re-selection announcement to criticise the current operation of the Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive.
He argued that political deadlock and disagreements between parties were undermining confidence in devolved government.
Mr Tennyson also raised concerns about the absence of an agreed budget and its potential consequences for public services.
He said the situation demonstrated the need for political representatives to focus on delivering effective government rather than allowing disagreements to obstruct progress.
His comments reflect Alliance’s wider position that reform of Northern Ireland’s political institutions is needed to improve stability and accountability.
Alliance Deputy Leader calls for different political approach
Mr Tennyson said the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for voters to move away from division and towards greater cooperation.
He argued that Northern Ireland needed a political approach focused on shared priorities, diversity and long-term progress.
The MLA said these principles had motivated him to join Alliance and continued to shape his work as an elected representative.
He also stressed that every vote would matter in Upper Bann, where he hopes to retain his Assembly seat.
Parties prepare for 2027 Assembly election
Mr Tennyson’s re-selection comes as political parties across Northern Ireland begin confirming candidates ahead of the next Assembly election.
The election will determine the composition of the Assembly and influence the future direction of devolved government at Stormont.
For Alliance, the contest will provide an opportunity to defend existing seats while seeking to increase its representation.
In Upper Bann, Mr Tennyson will seek another term representing the constituency, with his campaign expected to focus on political stability, public services and cross-community cooperation.
