NIFL weekend preview: Premiership and Championship fixtures

The NIFL weekend preview centres on a top-of-the-table clash as reigning champions Larne host Premiership leaders Coleraine on Friday night. Fourteen matches are scheduled across the BOYLE Sports Premiership and Championship on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October.
The weekend also brings a busy Championship programme, with leaders Annagh United travelling to Armagh City and second-placed Glenavon facing H&W Welders.
Premiership: Larne host leaders Coleraine
Friday’s meeting at Inver Park is the headline fixture. Coleraine arrive at the home of the defending champions at the top of the table, while Larne have games in hand after a disrupted start to their league schedule. Larne come into the match after a 3-0 win away to Crusaders, though will be without Christopher Gallagher following his dismissal in that match; Coleraine’s most recent league outing was a 1-0 home victory over Cliftonville.
The remaining Premiership fixtures take place on Saturday. Ballymena United welcome Crusaders after both sides suffered defeats last weekend, while Bangor host Dungannon Swifts. Dungannon will be looking to build on their stronger position in the table, with Bangor seeking points at Clandeboye Park.
Carrick Rangers face second-placed Linfield at Taylors Avenue. Linfield arrive after a 2-0 win over Bangor, while Carrick will be aiming to make home advantage count against one of the early pace-setters.
Glentoran host Limavady United at the BetMcLean Oval. Limavady’s 3-2 win over Ballymena last time out gives them momentum, while the Glens will want to respond after a goalless draw with Portadown.
Saturday’s later kick-off sees Cliftonville take on Portadown at Solitude in an NIFL TV showcase match. Cliftonville will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at Coleraine, while Portadown travel to Belfast after picking up a point against Glentoran.
Championship: leaders Annagh face Armagh test
The Championship programme begins on Friday with four matches. Ards host Institute, Glenavon welcome H&W Welders, Moyola Park meet Newington and Strabane Athletic take on Loughgall.
Glenavon’s match has added significance after they drew 1-1 with Annagh United in last weekend’s meeting between the top two. Annagh remain leaders, one point ahead of Glenavon, and travel to Armagh City on Saturday. The result could affect the gap at the top, depending on Glenavon’s Friday-night result.
Ballinamallard United host Warrenpoint Town after both teams recorded 1-0 wins last weekend. Dundela face Rathfriland Rangers at Wilgar Park, while Queen’s University meet Newry City at the Blanchflower Stadium.
All four Saturday Championship fixtures are scheduled for 3pm. The Friday matches kick off at 7.45pm.
