NIFL weekend results: Coleraine and Annagh United move to the top

NIFL weekend results: Coleraine finished the NIFL Premiership weekend with a 3-2 win away to Bangor, while Annagh United moved to the top of the Championship after earning a stoppage-time point against Warrenpoint Town.

The weekend’s Premiership action also saw wins for Carrick Rangers, Glentoran, Ballymena United and Portadown. In the Championship, Institute hit seven goals as they defeated Newington, who had started the day at the top of the table.

Carrick Rangers recorded the biggest win of Saturday’s fixtures, beating Crusaders 4-0 at Taylor’s Avenue. Adam Lecky, Jordan Forsythe, Daniel Gibson and Daire O’Connor were on the scoresheet.

Glentoran made it three consecutive league wins with a 2-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts. James Singleton headed the hosts in front before Jack Malone added a second in stoppage time.

Ballymena United beat Cliftonville 1-0 at Solitude. Igor Rutkowski scored the only goal after the break, following the dismissal of Cliftonville’s Paul Stanfield just before half-time.

Portadown claimed their first league win of the season, defeating Limavady United 3-1 at Shamrock Park. James Teelan gave the Ports an early lead, Jamie McGonigle equalised for Limavady, and second-half goals from Baris Altintop and Ben Kennedy secured the points before Limavady received two dismissals late in the match.

On Sunday, Coleraine came from behind to beat Bangor 3-2 at Clandeboye Park. The result left the Bannsiders three points clear at the top of the table, although Linfield had a game in hand.

Institute produced the standout score of the Championship weekend, beating Newington 7-0 at the Brandywell. Evan Tweed scored twice in the opening six minutes, and Stephen Doherty, Padraig Lynch, Caoimhin Porter and Tiernan Brolly also found the net, alongside an own goal.

Annagh United moved top after rescuing a point at Warrenpoint Town. Adetobi Jinadu had put Warrenpoint ahead, but Lee Upton scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to make it 1-1, despite Annagh having been reduced to ten men.

Glenavon beat Moyola Park 3-0, while Rathfriland Rangers won 3-1 away to H&W Welders. Queen’s University took a 2-0 win at Dundela, and Loughgall edged Newry City 2-1. Ballinamallard United and Ards drew 1-1.

Friday’s Championship fixture ended goalless, with Strabane Athletic and Armagh City sharing the points.
