45,000 NI properties at risk of flooding as Met Office warns of potentially wetter winter
Northern Ireland residents are being encouraged to prepare for possible flooding this winter, with approximately 45,000 homes and businesses located in areas considered at risk.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins issued the warning ahead of Flood Awareness Week, which runs from 12 to 18 October.
The Department for Infrastructure says flooding can cause tens of thousands of pounds in damage to individual properties, as well as posing risks to public safety.
Met Office highlights wetter winter possibility
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Dr Will Lang said the organisation’s long-range forecast suggests an increased chance of a wetter-than-average winter.
He explained that seasonal forecasts indicate broad weather trends rather than predicting precisely when or where severe weather might occur.
Residents are being encouraged to follow weather forecasts and warnings throughout the coming months.
Flood Awareness Week
Minister Kimmins said preparation could help reduce the impact of flooding on homes, businesses and communities.
The Department for Infrastructure will publish practical advice during Flood Awareness Week, encouraging residents to understand their flood risk and take preventative measures.
The Minister also confirmed that the Department’s duty and flooding officer arrangements operate around the clock throughout the year.
