196 new social homes completed at Blacks Gate development in Dunmurry
A major housing development in Dunmurry has been completed, delivering 196 new social homes as part of one of Northern Ireland’s largest recent social housing projects.

The Blacks Gate development has received £15.3 million in support from the Department for Communities and has been led by Radius Housing.
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons visited the development following its completion, describing the scheme as another significant addition to Northern Ireland’s social housing supply.
196 social homes delivered at Blacks Gate
Blacks Gate is a mixed-tenure development combining 196 social homes with 26 affordable Co-Ownership properties and 22 private homes.

The development includes a range of housing types, including family homes, apartments and bungalows, as well as specialist wheelchair-accessible accommodation.
The Department for Communities said the project is intended to help address housing need while creating a mixed and sustainable community.
£15.3m Department for Communities support
The Department provided £15.3 million towards the Blacks Gate development.
Lyons said developments such as Blacks Gate provide people with safe and secure homes while supporting stronger and more sustainable communities.
He said increasing the supply of social and affordable housing remained a priority despite what he described as a challenging financial environment.
More than 4,000 social homes completed
According to the Department, 4,066 new social homes have now been completed during Lyons’ time as Communities Minister.
A further 5,639 homes are currently on site.
The Minister allocated £210 million to the Social Housing Development Programme for 2025/26.
The Department said the investment resulted in work beginning on 1,765 new social homes during the year, 261 more than in the previous year.
Development led by Radius Housing
Radius Housing led the Blacks Gate project, which combines social, affordable and private housing.
The completion comes amid continuing pressure on Northern Ireland’s housing system and demand for additional social housing.
Lyons said he remained committed to increasing the supply of homes for people and families across Northern Ireland.
