PSNI launches investigations into six unnotified processions across Northern Ireland
Police have launched investigations into six unnotified processions held across Northern Ireland this week, including two in Belfast.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed on Friday 16 October that enquiries are underway following processions which took place without the required notification.
The locations identified include Shankill Road in west Belfast, Tennent Street in north Belfast, Dunloy, Bangor, Newtownabbey and the Waterside area of Derry/Londonderry.
PSNI investigates unnotified processions
Assistant Chief Constable Anthony McNally confirmed that police were aware of six separate incidents involving processions that had not been notified in accordance with the relevant requirements.
The investigations will examine the circumstances surrounding the events and whether any offences have been committed.
Police stressed that the right to participate in a public procession is a fundamental human right, but that this must be balanced against the rights of others and the need to maintain public safety.
Police highlight legal requirements for processions
Under Northern Ireland’s public procession legislation, organisers are generally required to provide advance notification of planned processions.
The PSNI said the absence of the required notification may constitute an offence.
Assistant Chief Constable McNally explained that police responses must consider public safety, the prevention of disorder and the need for any action to be lawful, necessary and proportionate.
He also reminded those organising public processions of their responsibility to comply with notification requirements and engage with police.
Investigations remain ongoing
The announcement comes amid heightened public attention surrounding processions and parading arrangements in Northern Ireland.
However, police have not established that the six events were connected or confirmed that any individuals will face prosecution.
The PSNI said it would continue monitoring developments and engaging with those involved.
Investigations into the six unnotified processions remain ongoing.
