Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins announced on Thursday 15 October that work on the A2 Dock Street and York Street will begin on Sunday 18 October.

The scheme will involve resurfacing approximately 100 metres of Dock Street, extending from Brougham Street through the Dock Street junction towards Garmoyle Street.

A further 150-metre section of York Street, between the entrance to Cityside Shopping Complex and the Dock Street junction, will also be resurfaced.

Road closures begin Sunday evening

The Department for Infrastructure has confirmed that a series of overnight closures will be required to complete the work.

The first closures will begin at 9pm on Sunday 18 October and continue until 6am on Monday 19 October.

During this period, York Street will be closed citybound, Brougham Street will be closed towards Dock Street, and Dock Street will be closed.

York Street will also close countrybound from 11pm.

Further closures throughout the week

Additional restrictions will be introduced during the following days.

On Monday 19 October, countrybound lane closures will operate on York Street beside Cityside Shopping Centre between 9pm and 11pm.

A full closure of this section, including Brougham Street, will then be implemented from 11pm until 6am on Tuesday.

On Tuesday 20 October, York Street will be closed citybound and Dock Street will be closed between 9pm and 6am the following morning.

Further overnight closures will take place on Wednesday 21 October, affecting York Street, Dock Street and Brougham Street.

On Thursday 22 October, lane closures will again operate on York Street from 9pm, followed by a full closure from 11pm until 6am on Friday 23 October.

Weekend restrictions also planned

A further closure is scheduled from 9pm on Saturday 24 October until 11am on Sunday 25 October.

During this period, York Street will be closed citybound and Dock Street will also be closed.

Additional off-peak lane closures may be required throughout the works.

Motorists advised to allow extra time

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said the £350,000 investment would deliver improvements for residents and road users travelling through North Belfast.

She thanked motorists and local residents for their patience while the work is carried out.

The Department said signed diversion routes would be in operation during road closures.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for journeys and comply with temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the resurfacing scheme is expected to be completed by Friday 30 October.
