John Patrick McGilloway sentenced to four years over Derry burglaries
John Patrick McGilloway, 44, has been sentenced to four years in prison in connection with a series of commercial burglaries and attempted burglaries in Derry spanning several years.

McGilloway was sentenced at Londonderry Crown Court on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, following offences committed in the Cityside area of Derry/Londonderry.
The sentence comprises two years in custody, with the remaining two years to be served on licence.
Burglaries dating back to 2019
The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that the case involved a number of commercial burglaries and attempted burglaries across the Cityside area.
The offences included a burglary dating back to July 2019, a series of burglaries during 2023 and further burglaries in December 2024.
McGilloway received a total sentence of four years in connection with the offences.
Police pledge to tackle criminality
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Ballentine said police remained committed to investigating criminal activity and bringing offenders before the courts.
“We will continue in our efforts to make Derry a safer place to live and work by proactively investigating and arresting people involved in criminality,” the detective said.
“We will continue to actively seek out these individuals and bring them before the courts.”
Police appeal for information
Police have encouraged anyone with information about criminal activity to contact officers on the non-emergency number 101.
