Man charged over alleged criminality linked to West Belfast UDA

A 46-year-old man has been charged with a number of drug offences as part of a police investigation into suspected criminality linked to the West Belfast UDA.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Paramilitary Crime Task Force confirmed the charges on Wednesday, 16 September.

Class A and Class C drug charges

Police said the man has been charged with a number of offences, including possession of controlled drugs and possession with intent to supply Class A and Class C controlled drugs.

The PSNI has not released the defendant’s name or address in its statement and has not provided further details about the circumstances which led to the charges. 

Belfast Magistrates’ Court appearance

The 46-year-old is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 October.

As is standard procedure, the PSNI said the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The charges are allegations at this stage and the defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty.
