Richard Brown-Stewart selected as Alliance candidate for East Londonderry
Alliance has selected Councillor Richard Brown-Stewart as its candidate for East Londonderry in the 2027 Northern Ireland Assembly election.

Mr Brown-Stewart, who previously served as Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, said he hopes to build on his experience in local government by representing the constituency at Stormont.
His selection was announced by the party on Wednesday 21 October.
Brown-Stewart outlines priorities for East Londonderry
Mr Brown-Stewart said representing local communities as a councillor had been a privilege.
He highlighted his work supporting improvements to public facilities, accessibility, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and the preservation of local heritage.
The Alliance councillor said he now wants to build on that record as an Assembly representative.
He identified childcare, public transport, energy costs and support for businesses as important issues facing families and communities.
Housing and rural communities among key concerns
Mr Brown-Stewart also highlighted the pressures facing rural communities, particularly the impact of second homes and holiday lets on housing affordability.
He said Alliance would seek practical measures to help local people remain in the communities where they grew up.
Reducing the cost of doing business and improving transport connections were also among the priorities outlined in his announcement.
Alliance candidate calls for inclusive politics
The councillor said he wanted to promote cooperation and a more inclusive approach to politics.
He argued that Northern Ireland needed political representatives focused on improving people’s lives rather than division.
Mr Brown-Stewart said he looked forward to making the case for Alliance representation in East Londonderry ahead of the 2027 election.
