Drumcree legal challenge adjourned until Monday following High Court hearing
The Drumcree legal challenge brought by the Orange Order against the decision to prevent its controversial parade along the Garvaghy Road has been adjourned until Monday 12 October.

An emergency judicial review application was considered at Belfast High Court on Saturday afternoon, following Northern Ireland Secretary Sir Chris Bryant’s intervention on Friday evening.
However, duty judge Denise McBride determined that the matter did not require emergency consideration and that significant additional material was still to be obtained.
Drumcree legal challenge returns to court on Monday
The Orange Order launched proceedings after the Secretary of State intervened to prevent the procession from proceeding under the original Parades Commission determination.
The organisation has strongly criticised the decision, maintaining that its members had complied with the law throughout the dispute.
It has also indicated that it intends to seek urgent meetings with both the Secretary of State and PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher.
Saturday’s hearing did not result in the government’s decision being overturned, with the legal proceedings now adjourned until Monday.
Secretary of State intervened over public safety concerns
Sir Chris Bryant announced his intervention on Friday 9 October, following a formal request from the PSNI Chief Constable.
The Chief Constable had warned that facilitating the procession would require a significant policing intervention, creating unacceptable risks of serious injury, disorder and wider unrest.
The Secretary of State subsequently made an order under Section 11 of the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act.
The original Parades Commission determination had permitted a restricted procession along the Garvaghy Road on 27 September.
However, the parade did not proceed after residents opposed to the march gathered along the route.
Further legal proceedings expected
The latest developments follow almost two weeks of heightened tensions in Portadown, during which attempts to negotiate an agreement between the Orange Order and Garvaghy Road residents proved unsuccessful.
The Secretary of State has called for protests, rallies and demonstrations connected with the dispute to end.
The Orange Order’s challenge to his intervention is now expected to return to court on Monday.
