The sitting MLA will contest the constituency at the election scheduled for Thursday 6 May 2027, with tackling poverty, rising household costs and improving women’s healthcare among her key priorities.

Ms Mulholland said she wanted to continue representing communities across North Antrim while addressing the financial pressures facing families and improving access to essential services.

Her selection was confirmed by Alliance on Friday 16 October.

Sian Mulholland outlines priorities for North Antrim

Ms Mulholland said her focus would remain on supporting families struggling with the rising cost of living, particularly in rural communities.

She identified affordable childcare, housing and household energy costs as important issues requiring further action from the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The Alliance MLA has previously campaigned for improved support for Universal Credit claimants and raised concerns about the Personal Independence Payment assessment system.

She has also highlighted the impact of energy costs on households and the need for policies that better reflect the circumstances of families across Northern Ireland.

Ms Mulholland said North Antrim was her home and that she was proud to have the opportunity to represent the constituency.

She also highlighted the contribution of independent businesses, community organisations and young people working to address issues such as violence against women and girls.

Women’s healthcare among election priorities

Improving women’s healthcare will be another central part of Ms Mulholland’s campaign ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.

She has previously co-sponsored an Assembly motion calling for a fully funded Women’s Health Strategy.

The MLA has also advocated better access to healthcare pathways for conditions including endometriosis, infertility and menopause-related symptoms.

Ms Mulholland said women should be able to access appropriate care and have their health concerns taken seriously.

She has additionally developed proposals for legislation intended to provide greater support for charities and community organisations.

Alliance MLA calls for a different approach to politics

Alongside her policy priorities, Ms Mulholland said she wanted to promote a more inclusive approach to politics in North Antrim.

She argued that political division had damaged communities and called for greater emphasis on cooperation, compassion and progressive change.

The Alliance representative said she wanted to help build a constituency where families and young people could thrive.

Her campaign is expected to focus on the everyday concerns of constituents, including household finances, access to services and opportunities for future generations.

North Antrim prepares for 2027 Assembly election

Ms Mulholland became an MLA for North Antrim in April 2023, replacing former Alliance representative Patricia O’Lynn.

Her selection means she will seek to retain the party’s Assembly representation in the constituency when voters go to the polls in May 2027.

North Antrim includes communities such as Ballymena, Ballymoney and Ballycastle, with both urban and rural issues expected to feature in the election campaign.

The constituency will be one of 18 across Northern Ireland electing representatives to the next Assembly.

Ms Mulholland’s confirmation is part of the preparations by political parties ahead of the election, with candidates seeking to set out their priorities for the next Assembly mandate.
